I’m Handy

I’m Handy

I tend to do most things for myself.   I hang pictures, assemble Ikea furniture, spray paint things well, etc. I have a large arsenal of tools and I pride myself on being prepared for almost anything.

I am self taught… so, while I will hang a picture, I usually leave behind 4 or 5 holes in the wall.

I am interested in learning the correct way to do these things. I would love to find a “handyman” class or something along those lines but have not been able to find exactly what I’m looking for. The best I’ve come up with is YouTube videos and asking for help at my local hardware store.

My favorite “lesson” so far has been using cleats to install shelves.  This is when you have a space where a shelf fits in between two walls.

It is so easy.

I basically attach three pieces of wood to three sides of the wall and lay a shelf on top and drill it in.  Here are some photos.

I’d be happy to add better instructions if anyone sends a request.
